Please Support the Pregnant Women Support Act

(Email Archive Link)

Catholic Democrats Activists:

I am writing you today to ask you to lend your support to the Pregnant Women Support Act, which is moving through congress S 1032 in the Senate and HR 2035 in the House. This legislation seeks to support pregnant women by giving them better access to information and government services. It does not seek to criminalize abortion, or seek to be divisive by using the overblown rhetoric from the past.

While I have decided to support this initiative, I am interested in your opinion. Please go to the Catholic Democrats PAC site, and vote your opinion in the poll.

As you know, the Catholic Democrats PAC focuses its support on Social Justice and Peace issues. When it comes to Life issues, our stated goal is to reduce the numbers of abortions in this country by every means except criminalization and throwing women and doctors into jail. This legislation, in my opinion does just that. It also has the key provision which seeks to reduce the single largest cause of abortion in this country, unintended pregnancy.

While no piece of legislation is perfect, it is written and offered in the best spirit of the Common Good movement, by bringing together the best ideas from all sides.

I urge you to research this legislation and call congress and ask them to support it.

Sincerely,

Bill Roth
Treasurer, Founder

Enemy of Humanity? Prolife?

Hi Bill. Thanks for all you do with Catholic Democrats. I agree with what President Obama wants (and what you support) that abortion should be legal but rare. the Pregnant Women Support Act should go a long ways to that end. I would also like to add a comment about Congressman Trent Franks' calling President Obama 'an enemy of humanity'. I think the reverse is true and here is why. I am in Congressman Franks district and called his local office here in AZ. (623 prefix). I spoke to Daniel in his office. He said that Congressman Franks is adamantly against the public option. Daniel said everyone can get healthcare-if you don’t have insurance it might be a little more inconvenient. I suppose that means the high costs of paying for a hospitalization without insurance. Or maybe it’s the checkups for diabetes, heart disease or other chronic illnesses a person without insurance wouldn’t get because it’s too expensive is ‘inconvenient’. When I pointed out that this ‘inconvenience’ could shorten lives Daniel said that death is a part of life. This sounds like a death panel to me. We have 47 million Americans without healthcare. According to Daniel, healthcare isn’t a right. Why is that in one of the wealthiest countries in the world?
Congressman Franks has a 100% rating as a ‘prolife’ politician. I don’t understand this definition of being prolife. To me, if you are against abortion but not for healthcare for you are pro-birth not prolife. We need universal healthcare for all Americans where you can’t be denied or dropped. Where is our humanity if we don’t support these basic human rights?
